MK (Materials and structures)

The approval scheme for materials and structures, etc., for building work relates primarily to such materials and structures, etc., which cannot be evaluated purely on the basis of current regulations, which in this context means the Danish Building Regulations and supplementary guidance documents, such as norms and standards to which the Building Regulations refer, and directives or instructions drawn up in connection with the Building Regulations.

For materials and structures in this group approval can be granted in recognition of the fact that they comply with the performance specifications of the Building Regulations, and in certain cases the Regulations stipulate that approval must be obtained.

Information to that effect is given by ETA-Danmark, which has been notified by the Danish Ministry of Housing to handle and administer the approval scheme.

Moreover, approval can be granted for materials and structures for which no regulations exist (at present) or for which current regulations are not applicable. This group will concern in particular materials and structures, etc., not commonly in use in building work at the time when the current technical and structural specifications were compiled.

The MK-approvals are additionally aimed at manufacturers of innovative construction products, who with the approval can document the fitness for use of the product and the fulfilment of the Danish Building Regulations.

A national approval can also be issued for CE-marked products, since the CE-marking does not show compliance with national regulations or supplementary guidance documents. The approval will then serve the purpose of documenting that the product can be legally used for the claimed intended use in accordance with the Danish Building Regulations.

Acceptance criteria

The basis of approval shall be the current codes of practice, standards and test conditions.

In each individual case ETA-Danmark determines whether approval can be granted on the basis of existing information on the product, e.g. reports from foreign testing institutes. If not, testing can be performed by a testing laboratory recognised by ETA-Danmark and according to the test conditions developed by ETA-Danmark. The test results will be a part of the evaluation of the fitness for use of the product.
